Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Hillary,

I thought your bloggers might enjoy the attached picture. I noticed the recent post about Dave Fetty. A few years ago I noticed that during their annual glass festival Fenton offered a glass-making class. I decided to sign-up because I was always curious to try my hand at this. I not only got to make a few pieces but I got the chance to make the piece in the picture with Dave Fetty. It was a great experience. Dave is a terrific guy. He explained every step as we went along and was very patient. My goal was only to not burn myself (or Dave). The result was a beautiful vase (and no burns). Dave also signed the piece and presented it with a certificate and a picture. For glass lovers, I can highly recommend this class and the class that Blenko offers during their festival of glass. I will spare the group any photos of the Blenko I made although Randy did a great job instructing!

Do they offer this on special occassions?
How does one get on the mailing list?

Chitra,
I found both glassmaking events on the company's website. Look for the calender on Blenko's site and the Events tab on Fenton's site. Both companies usually do this in August of each year so you will see announcements on their websites in July. Both companies keep the class size small so it pays to check early and often if you want to get in.

Blenko did this but at $250 who could afford to participate?
