THE PURPLE MOON 906 Quarrier ST. Charleston, WVa.

The Modern Guy and his bride Ms. Modern Gal have a new Home for their gallery of

Art Deco Etc. Goodies -906 Quarrier St - We visited Saturday May 9th, this was their 2nd day in the new location. It looks SO GOOD! Lots of space, filled with beautiful items from long ago. I wanted so many things!

BLENKO - BLENKO - and more BLENKO! Chuck likes the new Bayliss line and says its the only new BLENKO he's ever had in the shop.

I'm attaching a link to his website and his blog, and posting a number of photos from my visit to the shop. My thoughts about this Shop are - I COULD LIVE HERE! If you love fine VINTAGE items - this is the place. Looking for something special - don't see it - ask Modern Guy and his bride will find it for you!

Plan a visit to Charleston, or phone after viewing the website. PURPLE MOON is the place to shop for those very 'special' gifts....could be gift to yourself. hjh

  2. Totally unique store. May I ask why people collect old furniture, instead of buying new high end?
Certain the reason is good, just asking.

  5. Lewis,
People collect and buy 'vintage' or period items for a number of reasons - for me
it is because they are made of
Solid WOOD, fine quality, fine craftsmanship, I love the time frame....the 30s to 60s.

Anyone else care to assist Lewis with 'understanding?'

  6. Is that block in the corner a Don Shepperd?
    How much?
What is the web address? I couldn't open the link.

  7. Also, we collect vintage for furniture for nostalgia, uniqueness and staying power. By the time furniture is vintage, we've had time to understand the design within its cultural and historical context. The person next door won't have a carbon copy of your furniture. Remember when the red couches were in? So many people had one.

Sometimes, we buy old furniture because it is affordable. I have found great pieces of furniture for just a few dollars. However, once an item becomes highly collectible and makes it to the vintage stores, it is usually not affordable. Sometimes old furniture fits better with existing decor or architecture........ Just some more thoughts for Lewis.

Hillary: An idea-- Please plan an itinerary for those of us who want to try to come buy the birthday piece in June. For example, day 1 Purple Moon to shop, Place Y for dinner, stay in place Z. Day 2, get up at crack of dawn, stand in line, get piece, eat lunch somewhere, visit somewhere, somewhere, somewhere, etc. It would be nice to meet some of you die hard Blenko fans.

Love the new look of the Purple Moon!

  8. If you don't understand vintage
then you just don't, many people don't. My own husband is one of those who don't.
He would rather pay $15,000 for new that $5 for vintage plus reupholster fee.
    Silly man.

  10. You buy furniture. You tell yourself, this is the last sofa I will ever need in my life. Buy the sofa, then for a couple years you're satisfied that no matter what goes wrong, at least you've got your sofa issue handled. Then the right set of dishes. Then the perfect bed. The drapes. The rug. Then you're trapped in your lovely nest, and the things you used to own, now they own you.”
