One Of These Is NOT BLENKO?

BLENKO - BLENKO - Blenko -

Heart of Glass friend, WV Janis sent the following photo - Its a quiz. Which one of these is NOT Blenko? leave your comment below.
HJH,

Here is a photo I took for a friend. One of the five pieces is not made in West Virginia. Can you guess which piece is not made in WV and where it was made? After people guess for a while, I will post the answer in the comments. W Va. Janis

Thank you WV Janis for this photo quiz, and for the many wonderful photos you contribute to Heart of Glass. hjh

  9. Friends of mine keep their red, orange, tangerine, and amberina bottles, decanters, and vases on top of their bar. They say the glass, all from WV, some from BLENKO, represents the "the devil's flames" and reminds them that they shouldn't drink too much or they might burn with the devil. If you look at all the redish, pointy vessels in this photograph, they do kind of look like flames.

As many of you have guessed, not all of the glass is BLENKO, but, to my knowledge, all but one piece is from WV. Will tell you which one soon!!!

Go Hillary, for each message, you are getting 10- 18 posts. Traffic, traffic, traffic.

  10. Okay, I'll give it a shot. From Left to right , Rainbow Glass flame stopper decanter, Pilgrim Ball stopper decanter, Blenko 920 decanter, Kanawha pitcher, and ruby Blenko vase. The Kanawha piece I am guessing is not made in the WV area?

  11. Dear Anonymous:

I think you are right about the five pieces of "reddish" glass. Having this knowledge makes you a great asset to our group. In 1987, the Kanawha Glass company was sold to a glass company in Pennsylvania. There are so many of these pitchers on the market, I'm thinking that the Raymond Dereume Glass Company of Punxsutawney, PA continued to make them, HOWEVER, I'm not sure.

I was told that the orange decanter with the ball is Italian glass; however, I'd like to research that more because it does look like Pilgrim Glass.

This exercise shows us that glass is hard to identify. Every piece in this collection appears to have WV roots. Two of the pieces (the ball stopper decanter and the handled pitcher) may be from elsewhere. Maybe not.

The number of comments doesn't indicate good Number of hits
sometimes no comments and large number of hits - its difficult to know what works. I stopped trying. Now I just write!

Your photos always get lots of LOOKS and this one generated a lot of interest, labeling is difficult. Even when its signed.

    Front left - Rainbow #9814
    Front pitcher - Kanawha #85

We need a photo of the bottom of the ruby vase.

The heights should also be posted in future games.

  14. When we purchase glass, we should immediately label, so our children and grankids don't have to wonder.
