  1. Two questions
Bruce how did you know about the GUMPs decanters?
Also how does one know if they are reproductions or the old ones?

  4. Sad to see these photos of vintage Blenko.
The current groupings are lacking vivid color, quality and designs are unremarkable.
I find myself questioning my need to read this blog, and search for vintage quality Blenko.
Perhaps its a desire for a more peaceful time, or a desire to believe that Blenko was once great
when in fact Blenko never put money back into the factory or took proper care of its name its designs, it designers or anything other than Blenko immediate family.
I'll continue to search for vintage and pray that some miracle occurs. While my believe is Blenko should have gone away a decade ago.

  5. I was disconnected
    and will stop rambling
A group of friends and I devote one weekend per month to Blenko 'hunting' we rarely find more than 3 -4 pieces. Quality Blenko is disappearing.

One of my disappointments with the current Blenko is color. The vivid colors are no longer made.
The blues are muddy the reds are brownish the tangerine isn't orange.
Color was the #1 reason decorators chose Blenko.
This edge should be worked on.

  7. Carolee,
I learned of the Gump's commission pieces through the original Leslie Pina book on cool glass. I tried to contact the Gump's store in California to confirm what colors might have been ordered but their records had been destroyed by a combination of store flooding and fires. Since Gumps commissioned the pieces from Blenko during the '64 and '65 production years I have used those colors available at the time as my original color pallet. As with all of Blenko production you have to consider what may have been special runs of color for other orders as well as possible salesmen mockups that might have been produced in small quantities and when not ordered by the customer ended up being sold through the visiter center shop.
I hope this answers your question.
I have not seen any reproductions of the Gump's decanter.
