Hello everyone:
This piece of glass was purchased on Ebay. While I do sometime purchase glass from there, it is not my usual
place of purchase. My boyfriend bought this for me after I had looked for a year for a piece similar to this
having seen it in a home that was decorated in nothing but Blenko glass and fine art.
It is the signature that has me somewhat concerned, this piece is supposed to be from a PBS donation done
for pledges. The signature which is Richard Blenko does not match the signature I have nor anything I can find on the internet.
The seller is willing to take it back, but the piece is pretty. Is is Blenko, I dont even see it in the catalog, although there are
similar pieces.
Can you advise?
Thank you for your time,
JK
Can you do photo of the signature
ReplyDeleteI own 20 pieces signed by Rick Blenko
and each one is abit different he has a scrawl ( WV work) signature very different from WH or Bill or Walter who have compact signatures.
Perhaps it depends on where one is in the long line when RIck signs.
If it was from PBS I am betting its RIck's signature.

Carolee, if you click on the middle image to enlarge it, you can see the signature.
ReplyDeleteHello, this is Blenko and that is Richard's signature. His signature like Bill's and others changes a little through time. Also, changed a little depending on how many pieces he signed that day (sometimes 100s). His signature also changed a little from piece to piece (some were harder to sign than others). The signature shown is like many pieces I own. I was standing beside Richard when he signed them.
ReplyDeleteI own a dozen or more Rick Blenko signed pieces and they all look different but similar if you know what I mean.

I heard someone say Rick's signature will in time be the most valuable. Your thoughts Glassdoc? Everyone else has lived and signed for 5 or more decades. Rick left while still a young man.
