Can't believe people are paying big bucks for vintage Blenko, designers' SOFT glasses but probably for investment. There are a number of beautiful, far more complicated, contemporary American works out there in similar price range. Just to name a few, we have Robin Mix, Wes Hunting, Gary Beecham, Kyle Gribskov, Peter Ridabock and Jeffrey P'an.
Anonymous I agree Mix, Hunting and others are more artistic Blenko has a long history of retaining its value and increasing value for the more desirable ' unique' items. These artist you list have not that history. I collect several WV and VA independent glass makers / who knows what the future of these will bring? Blenko has history of value.
Blenko will always be collectible. It's made in America and some of the designers' works will be antique soon. The artists I've mentioned create complex objects, but the designers offered to the world cutting-edge designs. Glass artists still copy their basic ideas to this day. Unfortunately soft glass don't last as long. I've seen quite a number of sick Blenko glasses. I own several. :-(
On This Valentine's Day we should all say to Katherine Trippe and Walter Blenko how much we appreciate all they have done to keep Blenko making Blenko.
I think this post was / is out of order.
ReplyDeleteCAN NOT BELIEVE BLENKO IS STILL IN BUSINESS.
