Wasn't 'black' glass popular in the 50s? Seems I recall my gmom having many pieces of black glass from different factorys. It does have an eloquent appearance, why did Blenko discontinue? Do you know the answer to this Hillary?
Don't sing of yesterday - Yesterday is gone ..... Tomorrow Isn't written - Make today your song!! These are words from a song, but if Blenko is to be successful don't we as collectors need to focus on today and what they are currently producing? Just a question? NO a comment also, for thought.
Sol, I'm gonna be very honest with you. I do not recommend as a policy. However, IF I had your money, I'd a)join Collectors Groups b) phone Damon Crain ask him to look for what I want or probably he would have everything you would want in 1st quality condition c) I would buy only from the best, buy only the best d)I would stop writing 'silly comments' on this blog e) if I were interested in new glass, I would do as you are and buy from the factory and local dealers f) I would continue to buy Blenko (new) for gifts and to keep g)I'd read and look at photos from the Blenko Museum to see what great Blenko looks like, h) check out other collectors sites (blenko four, blenko collectors see list on www.blenkoproject.org references. i) attend the conference get to know Tim and Karin Alonzo - I got the only 2 water bottles I own from them. j) Be nice to people. hjh Good Luck
I agree with Bridgett. To keep Blenko solvent, we need to collect what they are currently producing. Going to events where the designers and the Blenkos sign is a way to add value to your 21st century glass.
Last time i was at the visitor's center, I purchased two of the glass fish that are multicolored. No two of those funky fish are exactly alike. They really add color to a house.
Regarding Ebony: I remember when Morgantown glass made it. I noticed that their cold-worked rims were especially prone to chipping and so I didn't buy any.
I have a friend who decorates her house with glassware for the holidays. For Halloween, she brings out her orange and black glass and it is stunning. Perhaps Blenko should consider offering seasonal specials.
Someone asked about water bottles, currently, on blenkoglass.com, water bottles are offered in 10 colors. Of course other colors have been made. I have one in chartreuse. Hillary has one in Ebony.
