I went oouu! Very nice! You can tell that it was made sometime ago because of the shade of the red. Back when you could get the good ingredients to make red. Finding the Red Blenko is a blessing. From what Hillary Uncle Barry has said. Now I hear he has alot of the red. Hard to find and Blenko from what I have heard does not do much red anymore. I wish that they would help educate us on these things. Nice find. Roxie
The item is not as old as one would assume. It was originally designed in the late '60s. Ruby has been made off and on for many years, just not as a production color. It was often used for specialty items, custom jobs etc. Paperweights, bookends, etc were often made when a small amount of glass was left in a pot and the company would try to use it up. The color is nice, but the piece itself is not rare. There are much rarer paperweights that Blenko made, unfortunately unless one owns several catalogs you won't find them in current books. I wrote an article on Blenko paperweights a couple of years back and I've met with retired workers. My paperweight collection it fairly extensive including prototypes of designs made by Blenko's premiere paperweight artist. It really is a fascinating aspect of Blenko Glass that I wish more folks took an interest in it.
Tim Would you post your paperweight collection? I have a dozen from 2008 - present but none are exceptional. Thank you for the extra info and give up those photos.
TG I was told Blenko did for 4 or 5 years do reproduction, they are limited by the equipment and skill level. Perhaps if someone ask KT paperweights could be reproduced they look easy to make.
Why can't or doesn't Blenko reproduce these things that collectors want?
