Some times the 2nd Act of Life is outstanding. Ernie Downey has a BS in chemistry and a MA in Business. In Act I of his life he worked for a major corporation. In Act II ( retirement) he is a glass artist, a teacher of art, and a frequent contributor to this Blog.
The Charleston Daily Mail had a wonderful article this week about talented glass artist (and good friend of the Blog) Ernie Downey. Mr Downey creates fine jewelry as well as wind chimes, bowls, vases and paperweights out of glass.
I own several pieces of fused glass jewelry made by Mr Downey, each one more beautiful than the previous. If you don't own glass jewelry made by Mr. Downey you'll want to purchase these items for Xmas, birthday, birth events. Like Blenko they are handcrafted - unique and each one is one of a kind.
Ernie teaches a jewelry-making classes each year at the Festival of Glass at Blenko Glass Co. in Milton. His work is sold at Blenko as well as Cornucopia on Bridge Road in Charleston, and Mug and Pia near Pullman Square in Huntington. Items are also available on his website, www.ernsglass.com
