Blenko Mini Waterbottles

We appreciate the Blenko Glass mini waterbottle.  We live in a condo 750sqft.  We downsized in 2009.  Most all of our Blenko is in storage.  With the new  Blenko mini waterbottles, we have room to display a collection ten, all unique in the kitchen window.  Thank Blenko for us,  this was a great idea.  Hillary, do you know who decided to make the mini?  That person should be given a giant raise.

Hillary,  This is a photo I cut from your blog.   I bought three 'look a likes' at the Warehouse Blenko Glass Sale for under $100 a piece.   My neighbor has a similar one she bought for $500 in 2007.

Blenko Variations

Some time ago, readers were asking for photos from the Blenko - Variations Series by Wayne Husted.
These 12 vases were sold by special order only -  four offerings each had three bottles.
At time of purchase they were appropriately $450 per the three plus postage.
The number sold is questionable.   Some research indicates there were 40 people who subscribed for the entire series.
Blenko also sold the 2nds at the Visitors Centers.   Wayne Husted also sold Artist Proofs and
some Artist Proofs for each of the 12.  
This series as with most of the unique and quality items sold by Blenko Glass  www.blenkoglass.com has increased in value .

"Birthday Vase" by Dan Hollis (Marshal University) wins first-place in Professional Electronic Media Awards and Exhibition.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - For the eighth year in a row and the 10th time in the past 11 years, Marshall University associate professor Dan Hollis received the first-place award in the Video News category during the Professional Electronic Media Awards and Exhibition. The recognition was at the National Broadcasting Society's national convention, which took place March 11-16 in Los Angeles.

Hollis received the award for his work as executive producer for "Birthday Vase," a behind-the-scenes look at Blenko Glass' creation of a special vase commemorating West Virginia's 150th birthday. He also presented a video about a Huntington Whiffle ball league.

"Obviously winning such recognition for the 10th time is an honor," Hollis said. "I hope it shows a record of sustained excellence, but I create these videos because I love telling stories."

Hollis said he uses the award-winning videos to demonstrate important concepts he wants to illustrate to his students.

"The real satisfaction is doing quality work that you can be proud of whether it's in or outside the classroom," Hollis said. "To win awards and receive recognition by others in your field is a bonus."

Hollis teaches in Marshall's W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications and is adviser to the student chapter of the National Broadcasting Society (NBS).

"You Design It; We Make It" at Corning Museum of Glass

Corning is having its "You Design It; We Make It"contest where glass artists will make designs sent by you. Below is information from CMOG's website.

"You Design It; We Make It"

You Design It; We Make It! brings the art of design and glassmaking alive for visitors of all ages.

Submit a drawing of something you’d like to see made in glass. It can be a fanciful shape, something inspired by the collection, or an idea you’ve always wanted to see realized. Tell us what inspired your design.

At select shows throughout the day, glassmakers at the Hot Glass Show or Flameworking Demo will choose a drawing that inspires them, and then make that piece in front of a live audience. The designer can watch his or her vision become reality.

If your piece is chosen and completed successfully, we will contact you so that you may keep it. Glass pieces must anneal overnight, so there may be a shipping charge.

You Design It; We Make It! is available during school breaks, and throughout the summer. We are sorry, but we cannot make designs of any kind of weapon.

Arlon Baylis - Blenko Glass Designer & Much More.

   The next seven or eight post,  we will be writing about Arlon Bayliss.  Arlon Bayliss is the current Blenko Glass designer.   We'll also do our daily ' Go to Blenko for the Warehouse Sale until end of the Sale'. 
    Many collectors agree his addition to the West Virginia Birthday Series - are among the 'best' of this series.   Yearly devotee to the WV Birthday - Blenko series wait patiently to for  Mr. Bayliss 's new design.   Arlon Bayliss understands the Birthday Collectors - he knows we like W.Va. Glass but we expect something very special each year!  
     The Blenko Project often suggest to new Collectors think search only for the WV Birthday Vases made by Bayliss.    This collection ( WVBD/ Blenko )  spans many decades and its difficult to acquire a full collection.   Our last count was 8 complete sets ( including the one housed at WVU in Morgantown).   If you own a complete set of WVBD/ Blenko please send an email to theblenkoproject   at aol.com  so we might register your completed set of WVBD/Blenko.
