Maggie McMillian reports finding this 1982 BLENKO GLASS - West Virginia Birthday Piece at an estate sale in Huntington - near Ritter Park. She paid $800. Her piece is # 57 and signed by Don Shepperd and WH Blenko.
Maggie knew it was BLENKO, and that it was beautiful - thought because of the # it was a limited edition - she did not know it was one of the very ' special' WV Birthday Pieces.
GREAT FIND!
Maggie reports she is now on a mission to find the other 26. With time and patience, she may very well. The first six seem to be the most difficult to find, so she has a great start with her #3. Question:
We are older
we have a house full
of WV and American glass,
we would prefer not to burden our
children with trying to sell
the glass. Can you provide a list
of places that accept donations of glass sets in good to excellent shape. Cambridge, Imperial, Pilgram Viking, Blenko and some others. Many of the individual pieces have signatures. Thank you
Elizabeth Schrader
The WV Museum of Glass in Weston
The WV Cultural Center - Charleston
The Huntington Museum of Art
all have glass collections and are open to having donations.
Many of the other glass clubs have museums, fostoria, cambridge, fenton - that accept donations.
Send me an email and I'll send you the email addresses and phone numbers.
Great idea to donate!
