My Dad's parents lived in Wheeling, West Virginia. Their best friends were Graham and Gracie Nightingale. The Nightingales had no children of their own, so they graciously treated 'all friends children" as their own. Gracie was a very petite lady, who loved fine living. She liked to make elaborate dinner for Graham, she knew about wine, she loved to travel. She impressed me upon she meeting. Her home was beautiful. Yet, she loved to shop flea markets and she like yard sales, something my own grandma would never be caught doing. Gracie just loved life. Today I thought of Gracie, only because Larry of Serenity Glass sent this photo of Fostoria Boudoir Accessories. Gracie's' dressing table had these and 2 dozen others. It was a beautiful colorful delightful dressing table filled with silver or silver plated lipstick holders, compacts, glass and gilded everything! Gracie was a lady of this vintage.
Gracie died in late 99 and my own Grandma died soon after during my junior year of High School. Seems like a long time ago - Thank you Larry for reminding me of these two beautiful ladies, of the wonderful, simple way they took care of themselves, their homes, their possessions, and how loved they made everyone who knew them feel. Perhaps the mystic of the boudoir accessories is thought of time for self? I find these items irresistible. I'm not certain if Larry has these available for purchase? If you do Larry I'll add a link to your shop - let me know.
