Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

The purple bowl (6143 S) was a PBS giveaway during pledge break that year, and was signed R (Rick) Blenko, 2000.

I lined the water bottles up before we moved, and discovered I had a rainbow. Loved the look, and used it on my own blog.

Design numbers will give you a hint as to how old the piece is. Blenko has used several different numbering systems, but from the early 1950's to 2000, the first two numbers of the design will tell you the year, the last two the number of the design for that year.

The purple 6143s bowl was originally designed in 1961, and was the 43rd design for that year. That particular bowl was made in 2000 as part of the PBS pledge break, and was signed by Richard Blenko and dated the year of the event.
