Some of my earliest Blenko Glass memories involve the Blenko Glass Company sheet glass.
As a little kid ( 4-14),  my Dad and I did stain glass projects.  The two of did a dozen panes for the dining room - all made of Blenko and other WVa sheet glass.

Sheet glass can be expensive, but Blenko Glass offer scrap glass for $2.50 a pound.

Locally (Huntington- Charleston) we have three stain glass shops that offer sheet glass stain glass classes.
If you are incline to take the class, consider the scrap glass at Blenko.

As you become a more talented artist you might want to purchase l/2 sheets of lst quality
sheet glass.

,Since 1893 Blenko has produced sheet glass in the ancient and traditional way. Skilled craftsmen mouth blow cylinders of glass, which have the ends removed, are scored, and then heated again. The final heating opens the cylinders into rectangular flat sheets of approximately 18 x 25 inches. To see this age-old and impressive process, visit us in Milton or see our Sheet Glass video.

Because of the non-mechanized and mouth-blown process, the sheets will exhibit artisanal features such as surface undulations, small marks and bubbles. These attributes are considered desirable aspects to the handmade nature and tradition. As an intended part of the handmade process these features do not detract from the glass’ safety or quality and are not considered defects but indications of individual craftsmanship and beauty.

The Blenko Project www.blenkoproject.org   .Blenko Project  is announcing  new volunteers opportunities.

Our needs are:
1.  4-5 hours per month identifying glass -( we'll provide catalogs) - for new collectors.

2.  Someone who has website / computer skills - to update the website.  Dr Yadav did this
superbly for five years.  The basics are in place, we just need monthly updates.

3.  Board Member - we lost 2 board members this year.   We are accepting nominations for
board member.

4.  Volunteers who might be willing to speak about BLENKO and WV Glass to local ( WV/ Ky / Ohio) groups.

5.  Write once a month / or more often if time permits article for the Heart of Glass Blog.

6.  Provide photos of Blenko Glass and Blenko events.  

Dr. Homburg has opened a second dental clinic which inhibits her volunteer work with the Blenko Project.
You do not need to live in W.Va. to be a volunteer.
