Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Blenko Myers Honey designs

Hi Doc,
A am sending a nice grouping below to help folks with the color Honey. There can be some variance in the color from almost the wheat color that came in to Blenko's pallet later during Shepherd design period. Shelley is very fond of Honey and so I have been keeping my eye out for new pieces to add to the collection. I had a bit of luck lately and added the three pieces on the left over the past two months as mislist finds on Ebay. All of these are Joel Myers designs from the sixties. From the left you have a Blenko #658 S decanter, Blenko 669 optic decanter with ball stopper, Blenko #6711 S spiral wrapped decanter with ball stopper, Blenko #653 optic decanter with flame stopper, and Blenko 64E beehive vase.

Hope you enjoy,
Bruce Specht

Totally Awesome Photo.
Bruce if your glass is again on display, let bloggers know. I would make the trip from Delaware to Texas for a peak at your glass.

Hilery,
I just got my 2014 Blenko catalog.
There are 8 only new items
2 of these are a xmas tree done in frost.
Does Blenko or does Blenko not have a designer?
Four or five years ago Bayliss did 3 complete and nice sets of new designs since then very little.
Is the problem Blenko or Bayliss?
We know you love both.
Should they be looking for a more productive designer?
Perhaps asking glass design school for suggestions?
My husband and I try to be supportive of Blenko. We can't make purchases of the same ole thing year after year.
What is there to collect?
Can you perhaps suggest they do 3 or 4 high end pieces each year for those of us who don't mind paying 200 -300 for a good piece?
There must be some simple solution.

Also posting photos of old glass doesn't help with finding buyers for new glass.
Just my opinion.

FYI Honey hasn't been produced in a very long time.
