Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Blenko Glass 1970 - Can we help?

My brother won this reddish/orange pitcher (photo attached) in the early 1970s and asked me to see if I could find any information about it. It's about 18" and marked 'Blenko." I noticed in Mr. Rick Pulcrano's collection that he had an amber one that looked similar in design.

Thanks for your help!

Valerie S,

This appears to be a Blenko 598-L in Tangerine. A little dusty from your picture but a nice gentle cleaning with some mild soap and luke warm water should have it shining in no time. The handle appears to be attached a little on the high side but the one I have in Tangerine is similar. This is a Wayne Husted design from 1959 and from the absence of it in the 1960 catalog appears to have only been manufactured one year.
Hope this helps.
