Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Can We Help THis Reader? Blenko Lady?

Folks Dr Y purchased a 'blenko lady' he now is fearful this is a reproduction. Will you be kind enough to view the photos
and make comments. If it is a Blenko Lady he wants to keep her, if not, well then she'll become a gift for someone
special.
Thank you
HJH

Hello Hillary,

This I first thought was the original blenko lady. Its very beautiful,
it stands about 15 inch high, and is peacock blue in color.
The face on stopper is more than 2 inches in diameter. There are some
chips on the base of the stopper, and one of the hands was repaired
after a damage.
I did more research I now think that this is a replica of blenko lady
by Rossini.
Any idea what this is worth? I havent seen the original blenko lady or
the replica on sale, so am happy to get this piece.

My blenko collection is growing strong. I have some rare pieces,
including the holy family by Don Shepherd and other common pieces.
Will send more pictures later.

Thanks
V

Hello,
this is the Italian copycat of the Blenko piece. The lack of an "Adam's Apple" on the stopper is key.

Still a nice piece of glass and an attractive color. Not sure of the value. The ones I have seen in the past sold for less than $100.

Well said.
I own this, perhaps I also own a fake, but I see
no difference in my lady who has a silver
sticker marked Blenko.

NICE GLASS V.

The color is right, but given that the "adam's apple" is missing, and it looks like the stopper is not "ground," or frosted, I'd say probably not. Does it have a pronounced pontil? See the Blenko Collector's site for some comparison photos:

Good luck,

Diane

I own this, it was purchased from Blenko gift shop when my children were participating in a school based trip.
After checking I do not have a ground stopper or frosted stopper - - - could it be not all stoppers made it to the grinder?

I paid much less than $100

I like your Italian copy if it is an italian copy.
Many companies copied designs ( still do) - enjoy your lady, assuming you didn't pay more than a hundred bucks you have a very nice piece of vintage glass.

last 5 weeks, thus far no response.
Are you OK?

I got one from VC that did not have ground stopper. This does not look like the one on blenko collector link because it does not have hourglass shape on stopper.

i sold mine for 200.

"Adam's apple"??!! Um, this is a lady, not a drag queen. Only men have Adam's apple's.
This is Blenko it's just a horribly made one, almost certainly a visitor's center seconds quality piece at best. It's Blenko's Peacock color that the Italians did not make or have anything comparable to. This is the thing with Blenko; just because it's a 6525 doesn't mean its worth anything; it has to be well made. Half the Blenko made was made badly. I'd throw this one out like Blenko should have.

I own both, very little difference.
Today I am sending you photos to theblenko
