Joel Myers Lifetime Achievement Award

Long after establishing Illinois State’s glass program, Distinguished Professor of Art Emeritus Joel Myers continues to impact the art world. He has been named the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient by the Glass Art Society. The honor acknowledges individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the glass arts worldwide. Myers was the design director at Blenko Glass prior to joining the University. The unique glass program he started at ISU in 1970 attracts students from around the world, training artists in a field where few excel. Now retired and living in Pennsylvania, Myers continues to create glass vessels.

Glassdoc
Add my name to the list of readers who appreciate you and the Herald. The blog is informative, easily accessible, funny, and filled with trivia.
Thank you. I notice the lady who wrote to say there were dozens of mistakes didn't respond with the list.
Laughing. It is easier to complain than to take an action.
Thank you for daily taking action to promote Blenko and West Virginia Glass.
More Hinkle Glass if you please!

Glasslady a friend gave me this and I felt it was true for those wonderful glass worker and all of us, they will all be leaving marks.
Annoymous until you feature them, even so they made marks.

A pencil maker told the pencil 5 important lessons just before putting it in the box:

1. Everything you do will always leave a mark.

2. You can always correct the mistakes you make.

3. What is important is what is inside of you.

4. In life, you will undergo painful sharpenings, which will only make you better.

5. To be the best pencil, you must allow yourself to be held and guided by the hand that holds you.

Note:
We all need to be constantly sharpened. This parable may encourage you to know that you are a special person, with unique God-given talents and abilities. Only you can fulfill the purpose which you were born to accomplish. Never allow yourself to get discouraged and think that your life is insignificant and cannot be changed and, like the pencil, always remember that the most important part of who you are, is what's iinside of you!

Joel Myers the 2nd Blenko designer
distinguished himself and founded the art society during his tenture at Blenko. He with a couple others put together the grant for
Glass Art in the Factory, bringing talented young glass artist to West Virginia.
Where ever he worked Joel Myers was well thought of. Blenko was his initial step, Blenko was most fortunate to have the likes of Myers, Littleton, Marvin L, Henry step inside the building. Never will they again see such talent.
Yes George is correct the Blenko's and glass doc also should be sending notes of acknowledgment of this award.
If the very political Rick B were around he would have done this.
Blenko Collectors owe a great deal to Myers, Husted, Nickerson etc. Blenko without a designer has not been good.
We like the designs of Bayliss and wish Blenko could hire him full time.
