Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Ernie Downey - Glass Artist

Some times the 2nd Act of Life  is outstanding.   Ernie Downey has a BS in chemistry and a MA in Business.  In Act I of his life he worked for a major corporation.    In Act II ( retirement)  he is a glass artist,  a teacher of art, and a frequent contributor to this Blog.
The Charleston Daily Mail had a wonderful article this week about talented glass artist (and good friend of the Blog)  Ernie Downey.
Mr Downey creates fine jewelry as well as wind chimes, bowls, vases and paperweights out of glass.

I own several pieces of fused glass jewelry made by Mr Downey, each one more beautiful than the previous.    If you don't own glass jewelry made by Mr. Downey you'll want to purchase these items for Xmas, birthday, birth events.  Like Blenko they are handcrafted - unique and each one is one of a kind.

Ernie teaches a jewelry-making classes each year at the Festival of Glass at Blenko Glass Co. in Milton. His work is sold at Blenko as well as Cornucopia on Bridge Road in Charleston, and Mug and Pia near Pullman Square in Huntington. Items are also available on his website, www.ernsglass.com

You can read the full article (and see photos of Ernie's work) here:

Ernie Downy I appreciate the photos and information you contribute to this blog.
You and Dr V are great additions.
You keep the blog up to date with new glass photos
and Dr V provides those awesome catalogs.
The blog also keeps Blenko Glass daily in the google search.
Blenko was very smart to come up with this idea of having a devoted collector daily print photos of Blenko Glass.
I appreciate all of you and also Blenko.
