A lamp, in technical usage, is a replaceable component such as an incandescent light bulb, which is designed to produce light from electricity. These components usually have a base of ceramic, metal, glass or plastic, which makes an electrical connection in the socket of a light fixture. ...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamp (electrical component)
The lamp was invented at least as early as 70,000 bc. Originally it consisted of a hollowed-out rock filled with moss or some other absorbent material that was soaked with animal fat and ignited. In the Mediterranean area and the Middle East, the earliest lamp had a shell shape. Originally, actual shells were used, with sections cut out to provide space for the lighting area; later these were replaced by pottery, alabaster, or metal lamps shaped to resemble their natural prototypes. Another basic type of primitive lamp, found in ancient Egypt and China, was the saucer lamp. Made of pottery or bronze, it was sometimes provided with a spike in the centre of the declivity to support the wick, which was used to control the rate of burning. Another version had a wick channel, which allowed the burning surface of the wick to hang over the edge. The latter type became common in Africa and spread into East Asia as well. hjh

I have a vintage BLENKO lamp that could use some cleaning out on the inside of the glass. Any suggestions?

Dear Hillary,

Thank you for including a picture of the vintage Blenko lamps in our store window here at Kissin' Kate's Antiques in Hurricane. Not sure where you got the picture but thanks just the same! The average cost of these lamps was $160 including the original lampshade and finial. If anyone needs an original lampshade to complete their lamp please contact us through our website (we have 2 left!) Visit us at kissinkatesantiques.com

Thanks Again!

I lucked out a year and a half ago on ebay and won a turquoise crackle 920L original lamp for under $100, including shipping. No shade or finial and replaced harp. Wonderful local lamp shop replaced the wiring, (because I use it every day), the harp and added a crystal finial. I bought a similar shade, since the original brown doesn't work in my house. After seeing the gorgeous photos, I'm looking for more.
Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah to all from the snowy North.

This spring I will bring 4 vase to Charleston for lamp making. My neice request for Holiday included having her favorite no longer used vases transformed into lamps.
Estimate here was $165 per lamp in Charleston it is under $80.

Hello Hillary,

To clarify, the lamps we mentioned earlier for an average cost of $160 were vintage lamps from the 1950's and 60's including the original lampshades and finials.

Can you imagine how the photos would look if Phani or WVJanis had 20 minutes alone with these lamps?

We have paid well over $400 for the one lamp blenko we own, bought at auction 3 years ago not as nice as the ones own by Hillary.
Then paid $110 for the rewiring and cleaning.
