Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

I recognize one piece as Nickersosn with metal an opening glass art piece I saw for sale for $25K in North Carolina.
This one I wanted desperately. I see it has an excellent home.

No It was either Chicago or NY that I saw that item, can't recall need to look at my old photos. About 3 years ago I think.

Sad that Blenko closed, but these items will never decrease in value, and owning a bit of glass is owning a living thing, glass is neither solid nor liquid and the human air is trapped inside so the blower /artist is always with the art.
Beautiful hand blown glass.
Can we ask for more photos?

We didn't send photos as there was nothing to photograph.
What happen to the investors?
Why didn't you invest?
Why didn't this blog promote investors?
Silly me, it was because Blenko Glass failed to have a plan or ask the readers of this blog to invest.
Coffee next week on me? I'll be in Morgantown week of the 15th at Med School, I'll phone.

Tammie is that a vintage table from the 50s?

Chicago home with lovely glass. Blenko can be found in the Northern states and on the east coast. In my neighborhood Blenko and American glass can often be found in local church sales. My suggestion to those newbies is to start looking. Margie Hale

Probably U saw this at SOFA, just guessing.
Most American artist show their best at these events, 2 years ago I bought a designer 'chair' at the end of the event that was marked $27K for $11K as they didn't want to be bothered with moving.
Chirakahn check out SOSFA dates and atend. Prepare ahead for shipping etc.
My gmom a patron of the arts never misses.

Dr Bob like you I would have been willing to make a small investment for some stock certificate to hang on my wall. American Glass is disappearing.
QVC seems to keep Fenton alive.
Blenko could have used a vechile like Home Shopping, The Blenkos are photogenic one questions why this wasn't explored.
The BCS base would have grown rapidly
Opportunities missed?

Found myself with free time and I am again viewing your photos, I often review the entire blog some weeks.
Very good info and photos, cosider publishing this Hilary in your after life.
Good luck. I imagine you will ride off into the sunset any day now ?
Very sad news about Blenko. Anyone else notice prices are going up daily?
Wish I had started 5 years earlier, my local prices make D. Cran look reasonable.

I will be going home 24th and will be looking for some good prices on Blenko in the Jefferson county area of WV. It is sad that blenko last day is tomorrow, what will happen to the lake and gift shop will the state take it as a visitor's center, would make a nice one. I hate seeing companies close and then I think about all the stuff that gets left to fall down.I know I have glass that is not being made anymore. Some of it I wonder who came up with that idea. Marthra Washington stepping out of a carriage. Hi Margie glad to see you write. Do you still have snow on the grown up-there? Jake is waiting for me to take him outside for it is such a beautiful day here. Have been waiting for the spring weather. I will be going through a bunch of old glass and pictures when I go home my cousin is tried of saving her sisters watt-notts, Blenko included. So wish me luck in my finds. God bless everyone. Hope we still get to have the blog for awhile. I love seeing everyones collects all are beautiful. Margie will you still come to Milton? Love ya Roxie

Dr. Bob

I picked the table and stools up in a thrift store :) It is a reproduction that is in perfect shape.

The John Nickerson pieces can be seen in picture #1 bottom shelf the 2 middle pieces, the middle shelf The 1st item on the left is a Kelsey Murphy vase then Nickerson pieces and the far right is just another piece of signed art glass that only a Dr can probably read the signature.

second picture everything in this section except the two blue vases on the bottom right are Johns.

Dr Bob
My rural rotation continues so I must say NO to coffee as I'm not available or in Morgantown.
I have met the Commissioner of Culture and History and the Assistant both are dynamic people.
Bloggers if you have not been to the WV Cultural Center located on the capital complex make plans to visit. The new commissioner also takes 'shows' on the road so that all of WVa can enjoy exhibits. Check out the website. The Culture and History department consistently improving! You'll LOVE what you see!
