Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

The Man Above

More photos from our Texas Friends
Bruce is The Man Above. .. . . our guardian angel who provides documentation, photos, and responds so frequently to new collectors questions.
Thank you Bruce.

Hi Hillary,
A couple of Myers designed spiral wrapped #6815's. The Turquoise bodied 6815TO came from an estate sale in Dallas several years ago while the 6815OT came from a shop I frequent in Oklahoma. The owner who I was checking out with said his wife would be glad to see this one go since she disliked the colors. Who says $20.00 cannot buy beauty?
Enjoy
Bruce

What are you saying? Doc Glass repeats photos? If this is your comment, then may I suggest you take photos of your extensive collection for the blog.
I for one appreciate the info and the content.
If you are saying Blenkos new designs look like the old designs.
My comment is there is nothing new under the sun. All designs unless copyrighted are available for use
by Blenko or anyone else.

The designer of the 2008 & 2009 birthday pieces, Arlon Bayliss, has designed several pieces and lines for Blenko in recent years. We spoke at length about his designs in 2008. He said that he liked to design pieces that looked like the designs of yesteryear but with a modern twist. He is trying to design items we can just look at and tell they are BLENKO. That is a loose quote from memory. Mr Bayliss, if you are reading and can give us an exact quote, we would be most appreciative.

If you have a chance, google his name and look at the glass walkway instillation at the Indianapolis airport. It will be enough to make you want to visit Indianapolis!

By the way, I still read Heart of Glass daily for the few of you who were asking. However, I started a new job this year that has kept me on my toes. Also, I have not had much time to take glass photos or to get involved in threaded discussions. How nice that Hillary still provides us with this service and that Bruce is so generous with his photos and knowledge. A Bruce question. Can you tell the difference between a Rainbow and BLENKO piece with this contrasting, swirled glass rod finish?

wwell guess what his ideas havent sold!Only one or 2 items have had fair sales to say the least so "old blenko with a new twist"doesnt work!He needs to come up with something differant soon or we all will be gone here cant live on waterbottles!

Relax we are all here to have fun, everyone collects blenko so we each have a right to say what we think. The new designs are repeats of older designs just get out your old catalogs and look. With all the pieces they have made over the years it would be hard not to repeat a shape. But it like that C&W song "Put a ring on it." Now thats funny I don't care who you are.

I do collect Blenko
I refuse to listen to Country and Western.

I dont care if you listen to C&W I was making ref. to the put ring on it song. which if you look at the new designs that is what they are, an old piece with a ring or a handle added.
