Ladies of the Auction - Mountaineer Auction

This mermaid and her friend were picked up at the Mountaineer Auction in Clendenin, WV on Saturday. If Blenko is your passion give Roger at the Auction House a call and ask to join the mailing list. Its OKAY to say Hillary told me you could email or snail mail a weekly list.
Recently Alice H. wrote to say "all the vintage Blenko of quality has been sold to out of state vendors, there is nothing left in this state, so why ask us to collect?" . . . ".unless we have a ton of money we can't afford the good stuff."
My response to Alice at the time was : buy reference books, take time to know what you are looking for, then check weekly E Bay and vintage or flea markets in your area.
Let me add - check out local estate and auctions - ask if Blenko is being offered or better yet - go for the preview and look for unmarked Blenko.
The two lovely ladies were purchased at the Mountaineer Auction - The Mermaid is a very rare piece of Blenko history - I've only seen one other - and it sold for $1,700 several years ago. Blenko and West Virginia Glass continues to be available in the tri state area. Often the glass is not marked or stamped with manufacturers name.

Do you have a larger
clear
more vivid photo of the mermaid?
The lady of the sea
is new to me.

Pete: If you click on the picture, it gets bigger. Also, you can export it to your desktop and make it bigger too.

The mermaid decanter is design #5732. Obviously a Husted design. They do come up on eBay from time to time, but many are not identified as Blenko. I heard this one went for $700 and that's not really a bad price if it was in perfect condition.

In 2009 we paid $950 plus fee & tax and shipping for this mermaid or one very similar.
At the time we thought it was a very good purchase.

Could not for the life of me remember where I first saw this mermaid.
Now I recall, its the vintage glass house website.
Listed as a fine example of Husted's work.
Shown in grey or charcoal I believe Blenko calls the grey colour.

Tim
I paid 890 plus shipping last year for a mermaid.
Did Husted do any other
whimsey figures? I also think of Myers or Adams when I think of these and Blenko.
Your comments and right on knowledge of the catalog number is always appreciated, as a newbie this info isn't always available often two sources will have different # or designer listed.
Blenko references are not accurate I'm discovering.
Thank you.
