Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Blenko Glass - For Your Stain Glass Panels

Hilary,
Can you tell me what Blenko employee did this stain glass panel? We're building a new home and I want a glass panel in the dining room window. The window is 36 x 54. Do I need to provide a drawing or do I list what we would want in the panel? Next question is colors, how do I know what colors Blenko has. With my decorator we are using the crayola color names. Can you give me info about price and also how long it might take. We expect to be moved in within 16 -18 months.
Melody S.

This stain glass artwork is located upstairs of Blenko Glass in what is commonly called 'The Blenko Museum of Glass', the stain glass work was not created by Blenko Glass employees.
I'll write today to ask Blenko who did create this panel and forward the info, or you could phone 304 743 9081 to make this inquiry.
In our area Shoebe Glass located in Huntington, W.Va., Franklin Art Glass in Columbus, Ohio, and Amanda's Stain Glass in Charleston, WVa are stain glass artist that I could recommend.
Blenko Glass floor vases and lamps are available at the Blenko Glass Gift Shop in Milton, WV and on line. HJH

The state of WVa should advertise the upstairs of Blenko Glass.
This and the South Charleston Museum have some of the best examples of older Blenko outside of Weston, WV 's Museum of Glass.
I would love sometime to see the glass housed in the NY Museum of Glass or the warehouse or whatever.
Did one artist do all the panel in the upstairs? Could someone from Blenko with knowledge respond? I ask this question in April and the older lady behind the counter took when offered my card to get the answer. To date no response.

Blenko Glass is not easy for stain glass artist to use, we bought a lot of antique glass 4 years ago
thinking our designer would use the glass. He said it was uneven and very difficult for him.
Ask others but I think the use of Blenko in stain glass is minimal.

Martina's Stain Glass Studio on MacCorkle Ave in Charleston did the glass work for three of our clinics. Martina will use Blenko if requested.

I no longer have her card but the shop is located off the Interstate near the Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Sign.

the stain glass window shown was created by Stevan Stanisic and Branko Pfeiffer. Both were employeed at Blenko during the mid-90's to create window's like this that were used to show off the stain glass department.

In 2005 we had the honor of spending an afternoon with Rick Blenko. Quiet by accident he befriended and took us on a tour of the factory, the artist studio, the upstairs and the entire plant.
During this time I recall he told us the glass panels and the sign in front of Blenko were designed with his imput by a team from Europe. They were housed at Blenko and worked their for months.
Check with Blenko to confirm as its been a while, I may remember only 50%.
The panels and the 2nd floor are worthy of a 2nd look by all.
Nice when you allow comments to be published.

Martina did some work for us also. I could 2nd Lewis' recommendation. Depends on where you live.
We don't live in WVa. It was expensive transporting the glass.

Don Lemley later gave me a list of artist during a glass event in 2008 I would think Blenko still maintains a list of artist.
Phone Blenko and ask for antique glass department. Most everyone at Blenko is an older ( 10+ years of service) and will have access to the knowledge you need.
