Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Reader Questions - can you help?

Hi Hillary,

Although I am from California a couple of my favorite things are from West
Virginia, Blenko glass, with a 60's early 70's aesthetic
and Jerry West. My e-mails to Blenko have not gone thru, would you answer a
question for me? I am interested in the Bravo series
and would like one of the taller vases in orange (tangerine) I would like a
solid orange color.I can not tell from the Blenko site
if they are solid tangerine or the kind of lighter to darker sort of glass. Is
the difference in color on the vase on the right just a lighting effect?
I need to be sure before I drop $170-180

Thanks,
Brian

The color of the Bravo vase pictured is Dreamcicle not Tangerine. Dreamcicle is a solid color that can vary from transparent orange to opaque (like the icecream treat its named for). Tangerine, called amberina by other glass makers, will vary from red to orange to yellow to a deep ruby red. Tangerine will vary from batch to batch and often piece to piece.

Blenko has these new colors
that someone 'told them' would sell.
If they would stick with the orange of past, I'd be willing to purchase.
Who decides on these colors?
Do they have a chemist if so the color should not change from batch to batch.

Buy vintage glass.
Call Kissin Kate in Hurricane, The shop on Capitol street or
South Charleston Antique Mall someone will be able to help.
Carolee
I frequently phone the Nitro and So Chas Malls and they ship
as did the Flea Market in Milton until the fire.

they don't choose to have this orange, they can't make red like we used to. so we can't get the right tangerine color.

We heard Tammy Kosla is selling a good portion of her Blenko.
Should this be true \it will be very good vintage glass.
Ask glassdoc to hook you up.
We also prefer the older colors.
Did anyone get an answer to the question re: altering colors for the 2011 pieces?
We also are willing to pay an extra fee.
Glassdoc perhaps you can check on this?
