Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Photo of 60s martini pitcher or a recent Osburn Modern Glass item? Also how long do you think Blenko and others will remain open? Carolee

Carolee,
Without seeing the item I wouldn't attempt to make a judgement. Osburn Glass in Milton, WVa. is known for his use of color. This appears to be a pure red, so perhaps its an older Blenko pitcher.

If you have not visited the Blenko Glass factory in Milton, WV plan to do so this summer. With the continued high cost of gas, and doing business in WV who knows how long we'll continue to have glass factories - currently we have Appalachain, Fenton, Osburn, Hinkle and Blenko all within a 4 hour drive. Email theblenkoproject@aol.com and I'll send you a map of WV Glass sites. When you visit WV take time to see the Blenko Glass Museum upstairs at Blenko - the Huntington Museum of Art also has a WV and American Glass display, the WV Culture Center has a section devoted to WV Glass. Also the Museum of American Glass is located in Weston ( near Appalachain Glass) it is a must see for any collector of American Glass.

Please allow comments.
I sent emails to blenkoproject
when comments are not allowed.
You would save time - if you allowed comments.
Not negative but comments with questions?
Do you know what the next Birthday Piece looks like?
I want to buy the set - know anyone with the complete set? I'll pay up to $20K if the set is perfect. Lack of time keeps me from piece mill purchasing.
What is new with Blenko? Did Big Two Mile get control?
Also photos of new glass?

Blenko survives always.
Blenko and Blenko employees share a love of glass and all work together to provide a good product for us, gossip for Glassdoc, and beautiful colorful glass for your display or kitchen table.
Never enough money, there was never enough money for Blenko to expand. Lack of money and a desire to remain privately owned have held Blenko back.
My best guess is Blenko will survive another 50 years.

If you are speaking of me
I am not married and have no public plans to do so.
If and when I marry Blenko Glass will not appear.
My parents prefer glass from Europe. Sorry.
