Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Can we help this reader identify her glass?

HJH

Hello J

Sure hoping you can help!!  My eyes are crossing from looking at pictures, books, catalog pages and I still can’t decide if this is really Blenko.  I bought it at an auction and they said it was Blenko 1960’s.  If you can help…..I will be ever soooooo grateful.  It is crackle, 19 ½ - 20” tall, jonquil?? And @ 10” wide.  It appears to have the “Vaseline” effect under certain lighting. I will attach additional photos.

Thanks,

Donna

I would guess that the color was Lemon. I checked the catalogs for the years Lemon was a catalog color and came up with nothing. I also checked for Jonquil years and came up empty there too.

I bought a piece from Randy Rider's wife similar to the #2 photo
mine also glows in the dark
she said it was pre designer design.

I would say, based on the size, it could be a #443. This is described in the Eason Eige book as being between 16" (clear crackle with a colored handle) and 17.5" tall (for a non crackle item). My own is just under 17", in charcoal with a crystal handle. The color could be chartreuse, which based on the Eige book photos, can appear yellow with greenish tinges.

I will scan a couple of pages and the back cover of the book (which has an amethyst version of the jug) and send them to Hillary.

Hope that helps,

Diane

Actually my thoughts are that this is not the predesigner Blenko #443 but the Pilgrim knockoff based upon the way the end of the handled is executed with the flipped up end which is how Pilgrim finished their handles on several designs. The size of the opening of the neck and additional height also leads me to consider this non Blenko. I cannot make out in the photos whether it has the "strawberry" pattern to the pontil mark which would also be an indicator of Pilgrim Glass. Could be mistaken since there are several examples in my own collection of variations in designs and finishes.

Thank You each for your comments and assistance in determining what this is!!
Hillary, was Diane able to send the pages from Eason Eige's book?
Bruce, would you be willing to look at additional pictures of the pontil to possibly confirm your thougths?
Again Thanks to all....Too bad it doesn't have a sticker!!
