Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Blenko Collectors

Hillary can you tell me everything you know about the Blenko Collectors?  Who started the group?  Where did the name come from?  Was it funded by Blenko?  What happen to the group?  Is there more than one group?
Thank you
Edith
Edith,   This is a photo of Tammy Kosla ,  she lives in the Chicago area.  Tammy organized via internet a group of folks who bought and sold Blenko via EBAY.   This small group of 14  grew to several hundred in
four years.
It was never funded by Blenko.  Blenko did host the group yearly - and paid for the event - which was much like the current  'festival of glass' - I believe the yearly meeting was profitable for Blenko.
What happen to the group?  The jury is still out on this - perhaps it became too large -  or was all inclusive - or was with out structure.
I've always felt it lacked enough funds - volunteer groups need infusions of cash -via grants or a benefactor.
Is there more than one group? -  There are several groups currently ( DC - Columbus -  Eastern Ky )  small groups of under 10 each who meet frequently to collect.   Most likely many other groups exist.   I'm aware of no formal group.
We've ask Tammi  to write about her experiences with the Blenko Collector Society .  She would have the answers to all your questions. hjh

Very nice lady, she helped me find glass and label the glass I had.
Knows more about Blenko than any other person I've met including the Blenkos.
I'll return to read her story.

I was the secretary for the BCS the first two years. We were all over the country, and had to do business by phone, e-mail and chat rooms. I ended up resigning because the demands of my job started to interfere with the level of attention I felt the BCS deserved.

I also was involved and felt too many demands
not nearly enough people volunteered to help.
But Glassdoc you endure this daily with your blenkoproject right?
I've said 5 times now I'll help and I have yet to do a damn thing.

I also loved TK good woman, heart of gold.
