Title

Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Glass Art Society to Meet In Louisville June 2009

About the Glass Art Society
The Glass Art Society is an international non-profit organization founded in 1971 whose purpose is to encourage excellence, to advance education, to promote the appreciation and development of the glass arts, and to support the worldwide community of artists who work with glass. We hold an annual conference, publish the Glass Art Society Journal, the Glass Art Society Directory & Resource Guide and the bi-monthly GASNews.
GAS strives to stimulate communication among artists, educators, students, collectors, gallery and museum personnel, art critics, manufacturers, and all others interested in and involved with the production, technology and aesthetics of glass. We are dedicated to creating greater public awareness and appreciation of the glass arts.
Membership is open to anyone interested in glass art - artists, students, educators, collectors, gallery and museum personnel, writers, and critics. Members are entitled to vote, hold office, and enjoy all other rights and privileges as determined by the Society's bylaws.
GAS is made up of a Board (elected annually by the full membership and comprised of at least 75% artist/educators and a student representative), a staff of five and a membership of over 2500 glass enthusiasts from 46 countries. Info from GAS website.
They meet in Louisville which is a short 3-4 hour drive for most subscribers to the Huntington Hearld. This is one conference you won't want to miss, if you are a collector, or just a person with appreciation of glass arts.
Louisville is a great city! Much to see and do. Louisville - Representing the point of embarkation for Lewis and Clark’s historic journey; Boasting the first modern artificial heart, the first vaccine against cervical cancer, and the first human hand transplant; Place of origin for Louisville Slugger baseball bats, the song Happy Birthday, chewing gum, “The most exciting two minutes in sports”, and, allegedly, the cheeseburger; Hometown of “The Champ”, Muhammad Ali, Louisville, Kentucky, a.k.a. Possibility City, claims many firsts- including the first public viewing of Edison’s glass light bulb which now universally symbolizes thoughts and ideas. Ingenuity and Possibility are trademarks of Louisville. The city’s nascent but burgeoning glass scene offers an opportunity for individual and community growth rivaled by few other locales. Ingenuity has made Louisville (glass art) what it is today. Possibility will shape its future. In 2010, Louisville will proudly claim another first, the hosting of the 40th annual Glass Art Society conference

I'm going to apologize in advance for being a little terse here. I spent most of the day spoon feeding information to people who should be able to read an instruction e-mail.

I realize it is much easier to have someone else do the research for you, but all the links to ALL the information are there for you to click. I see many links in the original post which lead to the exact information you are seeking - The conference is June 13 - 19, 2009 - costs for hotels depends on where you stay, and the entire brochure is available at the same link as a pdf document, 20 whole pages of information. Membership dues to the Glass Art Society vary, depending on the level of benefits you are seeking.

Rant concluded.

Thank you, Ren-Woman. After reading the comments the past few months, I've been surprised at the number of people who pay no attention. Ms. Homburg clearly states she is not employed by Blenko, has no official connection to them and has no control over what they do or do not do. Yet there are those who continually take her to task for not providing information. The links to sites are there to be used if you want more information.
My rant concluded.

I AM ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO EXPECT HILARY TO KNOW WHATS HAPPENING AT BLENKO AND TO TELL US.
SHE IT IS OBVIOUS IS CLOSE TO THE MANAGEMENT AND OWNERS
AND SHE SHOULD SHARE WITH US, NOTHING THAT WOULD BE HARMFUL BUT INTERESTING LITTLE INFOS.

PS WHY ARE YOU NOT A BLENKO EMPLOYEE HILARY? WHO THEN IS PAYING YOU TO DO THIS FOR BLENKO?

Thanks to ren-woman and Martine
the disrespect for Glasslady on this blog is high, the amount of anger toward Blenko should not be
leveled onto her.
Let us all follow West Virginia Jan in her suggestion that perhaps we become a kind and gentle group.
Nothing is produced by disrespect or anger.
Hilary if you bother to read the comments, you are greatly valued in Northeastern Ohio.
