Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Color? Who - What - When & Why?

Blenko Colors

Hilary,  I have a question for you?
Where does Blenko get the colors and how do they decide which colors to make  and when to make the colors?    Will they make red before Valentine's Day   Sam Tyree
Sam,   Most artist and art studios and decorators use a color wheel.  However,  I'm going to answer this question - as a romantic -  a person who takes pride in almost everything Blenko does.
For the purpose of answering your question - I'm attaching photos taken in the Blenko garden and parking lot this year -  ( many of these shrubs, vines were planted by volunteers - the larger plants  and trees are original to the Gift Shop and were selected by Ms. Marion Blenko).  Note the beautiful colors and how they correspond with the glass on the shelves.  hjh

When you purchase Blenko you are buying a product - a glass - a plate - an object of art
that will last a life time.
RE:  Red for Valentine's Day.  I'm 99% certain Blenko will be making ruby glass,  perhaps some PINK glass,   Blenko will be ready for V-Day!     Sam,  why not surprise those special people in your life with crystal vases,  or some vivid yellow glass?     Shop early for best selections.  hjh

Re: Photos
Many Blenko Collectors are also talented photographers.
Phani, Bruce, Carolee, Anna to name a few.
These photos were taken by my Father John Homburg- Blenko Collector - Lawyer.

WHO CARES? I CARE.
I ENJOY KNOWING WHAT OTHER COLLECTORS DO IN REAL LIFE.
IVE BEEN WONDERING WHAT BRUCE'S OCCUPATION IS ?
I LIKE KNOWING THAT PEOPLE WHO TAKE GREAT PHOTOGRAPHS HAVE OTHER JOBS AND YET THEY CAN DO PHOTOGRAPHS.
MY THINKING IS ANOnYMOUS YOU ARE UNDER OR UNEMPLOYED AND JEALOUS OF THOSE WITH EDUCATION AND TALENT.
WHY NOT GET A LIFE OF YOUR OWN?

ANONYMOUS I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND YOUR COMMENT ABOUT WHO PUTS A TITLE ON A GLASS BLOG?? DOC GLASS RARELY SAYS SHE IS A DOC, I DON"T THINK DR V ADVERTISES HE IS A DOC, I CERTAINLY DON'T SAY I'M A LAWYER WITH EACH COMMENT.
QUESTION - DO YOU HAVE A TITLE? OTHER THAN .....

Nothing accurate about the info in this post, however, I enjoyed the post.

While I rarely agree with anything you say, I always enjoy your comments.
Todays comment is right on and I approve 100%.
We are curious about other collectors.
We are impressed when a doc takes good photographs or sings in our chorus.
While the title doesn't describe the person, people work hard for the prefix ( doc Lawyer CFO engineer).

Hilary often says she is not a glassexpert but she will phone email or stalk the experts to get an answer for you.
The 1/1 post usually says " I am not an expert in Glass I do not have a Fine Art (BFA) degree I do not sell glass and I don't work for Blenko.
I have no degree of advanced knowledge I am a simple person who loves Blenko."
I also love collecting Blenko and I love reading Hilary's post.

To the above commentor
Hillary does little to educate new collectors about Blenko.
You all are drinking 'koolaid' and believing what ever she says.

Three years ago when I was a new collector, Hilary
hooked me up with WV Museum of Glass and the Cultural Center's glass expert.
She also gave me the name of Dean Six and Rock WIlson as people who were known experts in study of Blenko.
Ask for what you need, Hilary will surprise you with her rapid, on target response.
