Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Start your own St. Patrick's Day tradition.

Below you will find info from Steve the webmaster about St Patricks' Day available on the web.
Saint Patrick's Day (Irish: Lá ’le Pádraig or Lá Fhéile Pádraig), colloquially St. Paddy's Day or Paddy's Day, is an annual feast day which celebrates Saint Patrick (circa 385–461 AD), one of the patron saints of Ireland, and is generally celebrated on March 17.

The day is the national holiday of Ireland. It is a bank holiday in Northern Ireland and a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland and Montserrat. In Canada, Great Britain, Australia, the United States and New Zealand, it is widely celebrated but is not an official holiday.

It became a feast day in the Roman Catholic Church due to the influence of the Waterford-born Franciscan scholar Luke Wadding in the early part of the 17th century, and is a holy day of obligation for Roman Catholics in Ireland. The feast day usually falls during Lent; if it falls on a Friday of Lent (unless it is Good Friday), the obligation to abstain from eating meat can be lifted by the local bishop. The date of the feast is occasionally, yet controversially, moved by church authorities when March 17 falls during Holy Week; this happened in 1940 when Saint Patrick's Day was observed on April 3 in order to avoid it coinciding with Palm Sunday, and happened again in 2008, having been observed on 15 March.

Sol,
We were great bridge players when we lived and worked in Huntington.
We also have the Blenko club ashtrays (4), several of the hearts my grandaughter took years ago. It would appear I would also fit perfectly into your family.

We use green glass, but prefer the old Viking green, Morgantown and Fostoria green to the Blenko greens.
For Paddys Day very little Blenko is out.

Where did you buy this green top hat?
What was the cost?
Delightful! Youthful idea. I would do this!

In March of 08 I purchased my green glass, for the clinic and my home.
The clinic is appropriately decorated, my home is lacking the feminine touch. Glass is in the hall closet, perhaps in 2010.
Webmaster Steve you know more about Patty's Day than me own Dad who is Irish.

CHITRA BLENKO MADE THE TOP HAT IN THE 80s AND MOST EVERY YEAR SINCE THEN, THE GREEN SHOWN LOOKS LIKE A NEWER COLOR TO ME, SO GLASSLADY WILL HAVE TO RESPOND ABOUT THIS ONE
CURRENT COST IS 50 -80 DOLLARS AT THE VC AND LESS IN OTHER FLEA MARKET TYPE STORES. BOUGHT MINE IN 87 FOR 22$ AT A MAJOR DEPT STORE TO USE AS A FISH CONTAINER. IT MAYBE TALLER THAN THE ONE SHOWN_ DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THEY COME IN 2 SIZES?

PS SOL, I ALSO PUT OUT GREEN GLASS BUT I WILL DEClINE ANY PROPOSAL.

The cost of these hats are usually more than $50 to $80. You have to remember that mosts items in the VC are seconds. Not to say that is a bad thing. Occasionally they have some firsts. The Blenko catalog lists them for about $130 (for both the cowboy hat and the top hat). I have seen some variance in size but I think they currently only make one size and the catalog only list one color (crystal). In the secondary market, the cost varies widely. I have seen them go from $25 to $300 depending on color and condition. We have a ruby red cowboy hat and a special made WV State Trooper hat in cobalt.

The Green Hat in the photo cost about $100 a couple years ago. Blenko continues to make the top hats and they can be found in the Blenko Glass gift shop.
When you buy Blenko you are buying a pice of West Virginia and a life time treasure!

I have several wonderful pieces of ruby to sell. I have been collecting for a long time, especially ruby, but time to let some go. Having issues with space and room to put pieces. I would like to sell these ruby pieces, most are older pieces

Why not in your DC area all the bars offer free green beer on 3/17
Even you must enjoy free beer? Think of it as saving $$ so you can buy more discount Blenko.
