Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Blenko Glass. Ernie Downey Glass Artist/ Photographer

The Blenko Glass www.blenkoglass.com  Festival of Glass   Aug 2-3.   Mr. Ernie Downey  will be teaching two of the most popular classes,   below you 'll find a description of the classes, and also photos of items similar to the project you might complete if you sign on for his classes.   We have long admired Ernie Downey's work.   For more than five years,  I've owned and worn frequently ear rings made by Ernie Downey.   His Blenko inspired items make the nicest gifts.   This is a class you will want to take.   Phone Blenko Glass today to make certain you have a spot in Ernie Downey's class(es).  hjh

Acid Etched Dichroic Glass - New for 2013 taught by Ernie Downey
Participants will learn the technique to acid etch dichroic glass to create a pendant with amazing details.  Once the piece is etched, it will then be fired at 1400*F and a bail mounted so that the participants may take their finished pendant home with them that day.  Due to techniques of this class and working with acid, the class is limited to 15 participants and must be at least 16 years of age.  Stencils will be of a variety and will be the choice of what is available at class time. (pictures attached)
Stacked Dichroic Pendant - New for 2013 taught by Ernie Downey
Participants will create a multilayer dichroic design which will then be fired at 1400*F.  Once cooled, it will be applied to the Sterling Silver pendant for participants to take with them that day. Participants may opt to not use a Sterling Silver mount if desired.  (picture attached)

I like the idea of making my own, I also have a number of these ear rings I purchased at Blenko.
Nice to know that Ernie D is a local to Milton person. Next time will you do a photo of Ernie?
I have admired his work for more than 2 years now.

Very good explanation of Downeys classes now what about everything else?
Who is teaching? Are the classes filled?
What does the finish product look like?
Also is Blenko having a new catalog? I don't see catalogs after 2011 -
Is there a new line for 2013? If so what is in it?
None of this is on the blenko website.

If there are new catalogs - can we purchase them? If so where? How much?
Thank you and Dr V for the catalogs on line. This is a big help to my shop.

Donna
I do not think Blenko has a catalog past 2011.
Everything seems to be done on line, but wait for Glassdoc to respond.
I maybe wrong.

I heard this was a busy weekend for Blenko.
Everyone must be exhausted with WV Birthday and now this.
Kudos to Blenko for having so many events for the public.
