Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

More Info than you wanted!

Questions and comments from Readers:

1) A BLENKO COLLECTOR recently had a Breast Cancer scare - she may have been saved by a mammogram being done in time.... If you have not had a mammogram in the last year please get one this week! If you can't afford one phone your local health department and ask about a reduced/free of cost mamogram. Early detection is KEY! www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/breastcancer Breast cancer affect one in eight women in their life time.

2) What BLOGS do I READ?

I must admit I do not regularly read blogs - twice a month I catch the following blogs -
(1) THIS IS NOT MY BLOG
(2) & (3)I love 2 of the Herald's blogs and actually learn from both -
Hot Topics: Taxes. Litter. The cost of living. Anything that makes news in the Tri-State is worth a thought or two.

The Drawing Board Interested in illustration? Drawing images that accompany news stories is a privilege that news illustrator Thomas Marsh relishes. Here’s a chance to look over his shoulder and see how he does it.

(4)http://justamodernguy.com/ - Great blog from the fabulous Purple Moon

(5)WV Bloggers website

(6) ADA Website - I visit weekly

(7) A wonderful new BLOG by Tim Alonzo (Texas Blenko Collector)called Collecting BLENKO this will be a blog I check more than once a week.

3) Clubs - Organizations and where to Donate My Glass? The questions are what clubs or organizations should I join and where can I donate my glass? Wow! This depends on the amount of $$ you have and what your interest are. Many online things are free - Damon Crane offers a free newsletter, and many on line groups and newsletters are free. Check this out! IF you are reading this - I will assume you collect BLENKO and suggest you immediately try to join the BLENKO COLLECTORS SOCIETY and also the WV MUSEUM OF GLASS (Weston, WV) both memberships come with links to website - newsletters and a wealth of information. DONATIONS- Re read my disclaimer - I am a student with little knowledge - my first recommendation is to get an appraisal. Then carefully select an appropriate home for your glass. WV Museum of Glass - the West Virginia Division of Culture and History are the places one might consider. Start now - planning- it takes time.

Good luck! hjh

I have a tremendous amount of old Fostoria, Wheeling Glass, Seneca and Morgantown glass from our days in West Virginia. I am now much too old to care for it and my neices and granniece seem to have no interest. No one wants my silver either.
Thank you for the suggestions. Now suggest an appraiser.

Glad for alist of knew blogs. I will be checking them out. Margie do you have photo's of your WVa. glass? You know we would love to see your collection even if it is not Blenko it comes from WVa. Thanks for more than I wanted. gives me something else to look at and make a choice. Monday and I hope this weather gets itself back to sunshine and 75. I pray that we get to keep the lights on today and all things that run off of electric. Camping out is only fun when it is planned. We sat waiting for electric to come back on 10 hours, no new closet only half of one. See you soon, Roxie

Hello again, I forgot to wish every Mom a belated Happy Mothers Day! I would like to say hope every woman who reads this had a good day. My mom's day no electric, no phone and went to eat on Saturday to miss the cwords and found out the place I like to go to had a fire and was not open. Did not get to talk to none of my babies and they are most likely wondering what is up in Cabin Creek. Rog did cook burgers and we had candle light to eat by. The worse Mom's day to date for alot of the Mom's and it has been around for a 100 years, Oh well what do you do when God shows up and changes your plans to let you experience how Mom's from a 100 years ago live life on this day. I think I'd like a place for a old cookstove like my grandy had when I was a kid. Would be a good item to have, cook, heat water and stay warm with just a little fire wood. Wonderful item even had a shelve to sit the Blenko on. It was Ivory and black pretty fancy for a wood stove. Just memories, Roxie
