Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Orange Crush

Reader Sarah sent these photos of vases she is planning to purchase on line. Blenko Glass located in Milton, W.Va (304 743 9081) has many ORANGE / Tangerine items available for purchase in the outlet / gift shop. Sarah's letter follows.

Hillary
Attached are two photos of glass I want to buy both items are marked tangerine. They are both marked Blenko. The color is not the same. Are these Blenko? Are they Blenko Orange? Which should I buy?
My son loves the color orange.
Sarah
Sarah, I also love orange. The tall cylinder vase is a Husted vase - it maybe an older orange, the other is Bravo a Bayliss design in the color 'tangerine' which I believe is newer color.
Orange has enchanted Persian poet, bewitched Indian Rajah and captivated most all American housewives in the 70s. No one 'does Orange' like Blenko.
Blenko ORANGE and the new TANGERINE . . .steals hearts!
Blenko ORANGE in sunshine is heavenly.

Sarah
Hilary had to much eggnog
She should have come to my party where no eggnog was served. For your information
both are blenko
buy the top one only. New (after 70s) marketable Blenko is rare and this is not an example.

Be honest the new orange
is sad.

dr bob you are correct. it is either a batching problem or a melting issue. this has been an issue for Blenko and continues to grow into one the main problems. after all Blenko true rich color is on thing that makes it BLENKO. They need to get some of their old timers to come back and teach them how to make glass. They have got rid of anybody that knew anything.

Someone should tell blenko
cream cycle sucks.
Go back to the rich colors emerald green, ruby red, cobalt blue, black, pure purple (eggplant) from the past.
Get a chemist if this is needed, but give us rich color.
Ask a local decorator about colors.
Cream cycle isn't IT.

Does one place flowers in these containers?

enchanted persian poets, I'll bet Blenko Glass and Hilary Glass both possess this ability.

Katie just fired the guy who knew how to mix color after Scott Davis left Lemley was the only guy there who could mix their old beautiful colors. Another good move for the future.

Two questions?
No three questions?
#1 Is Katie 24 years old, and if so who gave her the authority to fire talented, skilled people? Who is in charge?
#2 When and why did Scott Davis leave?
#3 What are the requirements to work for Blenko? I have a MS in Chemistry, haven't mixed colors but could probably do so.

Another comment,
a previous comment say
'old people might be willing to return to teach'
This might be good, for both glass craftsmen and the color batches.
Is this being considered?
