Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Blenko 64E's

This photo from the Specht Family collection was taken by Kayla ( daughter),  she received a new camera.
Perhaps I could say my photos are horrid as my camera is ten years old!  My camera is old,  but my ability to photo glass has always been below average.  Glass is difficult to photograph.  I admire those who can master this challenge.

PS  Thank you Kayla for this photo.

Hi Hilary,

I had mentioned that Kayla was getting a new camera and I was excited to see what difference it would make in our photos. Well here is a first example of the improvement it will yield. The colors are brighter and very accurate, especially the hard to capture Peacock, Plum and Chestnut. We are both excited at all the possibilities.Hope to be sending more along to the blog soon.

Enjoy,
Bruce

Please let us know what kind of camera you have. Mine just never seems to get the blue and green colors right. This appears to be right on color wise. Good job Kayla.

Where did you find these?
Did you buy the series from Blenko?

Kayla is using a new Pentax model K-50 she purchased on line from B & H photography in New York. She purchased a custom camera/lens package for around $700 plus another $300 for extra batteries, cards, and straps and bag. Needless to say she has made a major investment in her passion of photography. The plus side of going with Pentax included knowing she could use all of "good ole dads" old Pentax lens that fit the new generation of digital cameras. A definite win/win.

Hope this helps,
Bruce S.
