Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

BLENKO Pre-Designer

Hillary,

I often see things listed on ebay and other auctions as BLENKO pre designer. What does this mean? Is this item always very old and valuable?

NO! The item may or may not be 'old' as many pre designer items are in the current line. Example BLENKO WATER BOTTLE.

A quick check of facts on the web - and I found many photos of pre designer BLENKO.
I'll cut ans paste them for reference.

The BLENKO COLLECTORS FOUR had this to say about Pre - Designer. (check out this and the Blenko Company website for information).

Blenko Pre-Designers
Before Winslow Anderson was hired, the designing of the Blenko line was done by Bill Blenko, SR., a team of his best workers such as Axel Muller and Louis Miller. Blenko Sales Representative Eddie Rubel also had a voice in the designs stating what he thought would sell.
Statement from Blenko Four website.

What happened to blenkoproject.org?

I logged on today and there was a blonde in a bookbag and some microsoft links. Not your homepage for sure. Did anyone else have this happen? I had to search my internet history to navigate to this page! What is going on? Hope all is well.

Ram,
Highest bid for any Blenko glass? Good question!
Well I know one person who paid $l,800 for a West Virginia Birthday #1 1980 piece. This was in 2006.
If you are speaking of the auction items we are posting for identification - the lamp sold for $575 and the twisted stem sold for $175. I don't know about the other items - I'll ask and get back to you.

Catching up with your columns.
Your devotion to Blenko is unique.
Tell me about your other passions,
are you as involved with
big bands, dog rescue, and movies?
Your blog is bland and lacking in personal information.
