Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass
Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Why I fired my Secretary.
Last week was my birthday
and I didn't feel very well
waking up on that morning.
I went downstairs for breakfast
hoping my wife would be pleasant and say,
"Happy Birthday!",
and possibly have a small present for me.
As it turned out,
she barely said good morning,
let alone
" Happy Birthday."
I thought...
Well, that's marriage for you,
but the kids...
They will remember.
My kids came bounding down stairs to breakfast
and didn't say a word.
So when I left for the office,
I felt pretty low
and somewhat despondent.
As I walked into my office,
my secretary Jane said,
"Good Morning Bo ss,
and by the way
Happy Birthday ! "
It felt a little better
that at least someone had remembered.
I worked until one o'clock ,
when Jane knocked on my door
and said, "You know,
It's such a beautiful day outside,
and it is your Birthday,
what do you say we go out to lunch,
just you and me."
I said, "Thanks, Jane,
that's the greatest thing
I've heard all day.
Let's go !"
We went to lunch.
But we didn't go
where we normally would go.
She chose instead at a quiet bistro
with a private table.
We had two martinis each
and I enjoyed the meal tremendously.
On the way back to the office,
Jane said, "You know,
It's such a beautiful day...
We don't need to go straight back to the office,
Do We ?"
I responded,
"I guess not.
What do you have in mind ?"
She said,
"Let's drop by my apartment,
it's just around the corner."
After arriving at her apartment,
Jane turned to me and said,
" Boss, if you don't mind,
I'm going to step into the bedroom
for just a moment.
I'll be right back."
"Ok." I nervously replied.
She went into the bedroom and,
after a couple of minutes,
she came out
carrying a huge birthday cake ...
Followed
by my wife,
my kids,
and dozens of my friends
and co-workers,
all singing "Happy Birthday".
And I just sat there...
On the couch...
Naked.
Goodwill is now on my list of
places to shop.
Is goodwill a national chain?

Did you read annonymous comment?
Read it and then block it.
These people are spamming you again.
Great for you!
I don't have any 'great buy' stories all the glass I own, falls into one of two categories : my parents either paid more than full price or it was a gift.
Over the years, I've heard Tammy Kosla and many others tell delightful stories about finding Blenko vintage blenko at the little shops in Milton and Hurricane. So - I know the "good buys" are out there!
Thank you for sharing this story. I bet goodwill of Milton has a higher than usual traffic pattern next week!

Goodwill, Salvation Army,Rape crisis centers and anywhere they take donations are always a good place to look for Blenko. I was asked to come by the Women's Crisis center to give advice on a piece of blown glass since one of the volunteers knew of my Blenko collecting. Was I surprised to see a beautiful Bischoff punchbowl with eight glasses , underdish, and ladle. Unfortunately it wasn't Blenko but I was able to relate that I had seen one in Dallas a few months before and what price it was going for at a nice antique mall. They priced it accordingly and turned down several "lowball" offers until the right person showed up and paid the full asking price which was still quite reasonable. By helping them get the most for a donated item it helps the center and gave me a chance to get first shot at what was an exceptional piece of glass. If you have knowledge of any collectables these agencies are always looking for advice to maximize their revenue for the agencies they advocate. Good luck.

Goodwll, Salvation Army, Cancer Gift Shop, Hospita Auxillary Shops
Annu even with the gold spoon you must realize (you) the wealthy donate your no longer wanted items to charity for (tax write off) and we the middle class working health care professionals & other middle class buy them! The poor - they go to Walmart and TJ Maxx for new stuff.
Lovin the Blenko Four and Blenko Museum sites I go to both frequently.
So now when do you all updates these?
Nothing has changed on Blenko Project or these in a long long time.

Its called Past Present and Future.
Rick Blenko is the Past, and while I agree he did a great PR job and is well known for being a glass artist and historian of WV Glass and Hilary says he is an advocate for WV and WV Glass.
The facts are the Present is the Trippe - Garrison girl and like it or not. She is now the represenative of Blenko.
The Future? Yet to be determined but Bleno has had a long, generous and productive past and we as investors all pray for a bright future.
As investors / collectors we should remain positive by keeping focus more on the glass than office or company policies.
Many websites are devoted to Blenko Glass, in another decade my thoughts are Katie Garrison - Trippe will be as well known and loved as Rick Blenko. Rick wasn't any older than she is when he started at Blenko and other than growing up in a glass family he had no more experience.
So, wait and see before shooting any new arrows.
NO Not another story about the great cheap glass.
Unless you can give me a signed notarized statement I refuse to believe these people.

chitrakahn,
As much as it may seem the stories are not true, they are in fact just examples of people being creative in where and how they look for glass. I won't go into all the "secrets" I use but lots of them have to do with using search engines in creative ways and one of the simplest ways is to do the opposite of what the "crowd" is doing. If for example I enter a store and everyone turns to shop in a clockwise direction I go counter- clockwise. The reason being that by the time they reach the area that I shop first, when I am fresh on the trail, the other shoppers are tired and more likely to have missed a real " find". I look under shelves and on top of and inside cabinets. I remember finding a wonderful Myers decanter inside a cabinet that was near the front door of a large antique store in Atlanta that obviously no one had bothered to open. One piece we found in what was a closed antique shop that was being used to store items but the door had been left open. We found the owner a couple doors down and came home with a beautiful knob handled Husted pitcher in charcoal. I have always followed the quote from an old football coach, you may remember when Paul "Bear" Bryant said " Don't wait for something to happen, make it happen." Good "luck" comes often to those who are working the hardest.
