Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

It is apparent you have considerable knowledge about BLENKO and the Blenko Family. Thank you for letting us know about Jarfly. Your positive contributions to the blog are appreciated. Truly. I, for one, hope you will provide us with as much information as time permits.

Hillary is correct when she states Hinton "Jarfly" Richmond who is shown on the postcard passed away. I am sure others can have the same nickname but this particular "Jarfly" passed away April 28, 2004.

Richard Blenko considered Jarfly one of his best friends so maybe he will be able to supply more photos. I believe I gave you a photo of Jarfly with Don Shepherd when I scanned postcards and photos for you when you started the Blenkoproject.

I just want to tell everyone that my friend drove 5 hours to get to the BLENKO Visitor's Center today. She found it and had a WONDERFUL time shopping. A very happy ending. She is a native West Virginian who spent her vacation this week traveling to see the 17 remaining covered bridges in WV, one of which is in Milton on the Mud River.

Now there is something for my "to do" list: See all of the covered bridges in WV. For those of you visiting Milton and BLENKO, the covered bridge is a great "add on" at no additional cost.

A BIG thank you to the people working in the Visitor's Center for making my friend's shopping visit so enjoyable.

have a curious nature so in August took a four hour
detour to see Ms Hilary's factory.
The ladies were charming, but had blank looks when
I spoke of the 'heart of glass blog' only after I said
Hilary's full name did the shop ladies recognize
my Blenko Guru. While I of course knew their
names from the blog.
We enjoyed shopping the many little antique
stores at the red light before Bill Blenko Drive, low prices
and many items made their way into my SUV.

The first Open House was very successful saw Iron Chef TV Diner and he said thousands of people were there.

Wow! The Open House sounds like it was awesome. I wish I could have been there. At the very least, I could have identified the other anonymous blogger who lives, eats, and sleeps Blenko.

Ah, U were there.

I would like to meet this Iron Chef TV Diner. He must be a cool person since he loves Blenko and Iron Chef. I'll bet he does a good job representing diner fares in his cooking. Does he specialize in particular diner or era, maybe Mel's Diner or possibly Monk's Diner? How about the Bluebird Diner from Mayberry?

Anyway, I was unable to attend this past weekend for a couple of reasons.

I hope that things went well and there was really thousands who came to buy Blenko.

Took WVjanis' suggestion to visit Milton's own blog. Viscous and mean spirited? No. Sounds much like the men I eat bkft with daily, we say what's on our mind, we have lived in the same village for over 25 years. We feel we know the history, the people, and the future is dependent upon us.
Hillary, It seems they don't appreciate your attempt to draw people to their town, dear glass lady, or else they don't read often enough to learn that glass lady men values the Blenkos' workers most. The factories and their history in my area are long gone. Keep working glass lady to document Blenkos.

Dr. Bob:

I hope you don't think I am implying that the Milton blog about BLENKO and the Blenkos is mean spirited! I, too, found it informative. Your likening the blog chat to the ones heard in all small communities is great. Reading the blog seems as if you are eavesdropping on a conversation at Tudor's Biscuit World in Milton!
