Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Karin Alonzo - Pres. of Blenko Collectors Society

Undoubtedly most of us have gotten over the shock of the recent news from the Blenko Glass Company. For those of you who have not heard Richard Blenko, Gene Weekley and Brent Aikman are no longer with the company. During a stockholders meeting Monday, William H. Blenko Jr., Walter J. Blenko Jr. and Don B. Blenko Jr. were elected directors. William Blenko was elected chairman, Walter Blenko was elected president, and Don Blenko was elected vice president. Richard was kind enough to give me a call and inform me of the situation. Aside from these changes, Blenko will remain a family owned business.
Karin Alonzo was kind enough to share with us a letter she sent to all member of the Blenko Collectors Society. Not all HEART OF GLASS readers belong - actually - very few - (JOIN PLEASE). This might help to with some of your questions. hjh
We are sure there are many questions from collectors and we will do our best to answer them, but please be understanding if we honestly do not have an answer.

How will these changes at Blenko affect the Blenko Collectors Society? As far as we are concerned these changes will not affect the BCS. We have just under ninety members and we are doing much better than this time last January.
Will the BCS still have a convention next summer? We are planning on having our convention next August. We will contact Blenko very soon to firm these plans.
Will there be an exclusive BCS piece this year? Blenko is working on a prototype. Due to a heavy schedule they have not been able make one, but once they get the prototype made and the BCS board approves it, we will show it to the collectors.
I hope this answers some of your questions, but for now please keep buying Blenko glass and supporting this wonderful company. ---

Since I started this blog
I have spent low estimate over ten thousand dollars on Blenko.
Should I keep it, should I try to unload, will it decrease right away?
What should I do I have been online and different people say different things?
Your voice please.

While I'm not surprised to learn the news made the National News.
The Marketing Director sent the press release out early Tuesday, as she should have. Our reaction is the problem.
This isn't the end of the earth.
BLENKO will remain. Mr. Walter is quoted as saying " We want to remain a family owned business in WV".
Hang in there Ladies, Don't STOP BUYING. BUY MORE! Infact I plan to spend my birthday money this weekend on line buying BLENKO for Christmas gifts. I recommend you do the same. IF you live close enough to visit the Visitors Center GO! BUY BLENKO! Speak with Diana and tell BLENKO how much you LOVE the SHOP and THE GLASS BE POSTIVE!
It's OK to email your concerns to theblenkoproject@aol.com but lets try to keep the blog comments POSITIVE OK
hjh
I'll try to get the truth to you as quickly as possible. Do NOT believe rumors! Do not Panic!
Blenko Glass is in need of your positive energy and your shopping skills! hjh

Hey Guys; As an avid Glass Collector and Retailer, I will tell you from past experience, When announcements like this are made, many persons i won't call collectors) seem to think their glass become instantly valuable. Others want to panic and get rid of their collections at wholesale prices. The smart do as Hillary says let your glass age. Larry says do your homework and seek out the persons who panic and add to your collection. Most of all be calm and continue to enjoy and collect American made glassware
