Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

A few weeks ago you wanted us to send list of items we wanted. My office did this and you didn't add the list to your blog.

I heard the sea pea was an AWESOME color.
I plan to purchase some of this color.

Color is highly individualized. I'm not a "pink person" but appreciate that pink is one of the hardest colors to get in glass. I'm also told that getting the same color/hue of pink batch after batch is hard.

I remember that either Seneca or Morgantown had a pink and the other company just couldn't get it right. Also, Viking Glass had Cherry Glo from 1953-1956 and teaberry in the early 1960's. I'm sure "pink people" are loving this pink.

My friend, West Virginia Lana, decorates with West Virginia glass for every holiday. For Valentine's Day and Easter, surely she will use this BLENKO pink!

Thrilled to hear someone is getting the blog posts for Shorty! C.D. please ask Shorty to tell us the top 3 things he is proud of during his time at BLENKO! We'd love to hear!

Late catching the blog, not surprised to see the festival of glass piece is still available.
Overpriced and it wasn't Bayliss' best work.
The bella line is going to be a signature for him.
Does he live in Milton or Huntington?

When is the thanksgiving sale?
Who will sign the glass
and What will the specials items be?
Anything new for Christmas?
I would like to buy ornaments made by Blenko or disc that I can hang on the office tree (tax write off).

In response to the comments about "sweet pea". We were experimenting with the chemical we use to make Pink Ice to see if we could go deeper. Sweet Pea was the result. There are still a few pieces left at the visitor center. We will not be producing this particular shade again. We are hoping to have Pink Ice again in styles not offered previously in the color at our big Christmas Sale, Fri Nov 28-Sun Nov 30. Pink is a color you either love or hate, but it is very hard to produce and utilizes a fairly expensive chemical and we are glad to be able to offer this to our customers on a limited basis at special times during the year. Keep checking our website for more details. We will also have a limited edition Blenko ornament that has been handpainted and numbered. Only 50 will be available for purchase starting Nov 28 at the VC. Also, watch our website and online catalog for our first set/3 Holiday medallions. We will be taking advance orders starting very soon. We also hope to have some Blenko ornaments available for sale. I am hoping to have W. H. Blenko sign glass on Friday, Nov 28 and we may possibly get Walter Blenko to sign at some point during the weekend. More details soon. Watch our site for a special coupon and more details on the sale. We hope it will be bigger and better than last year. We will have the live radio remote on Friday along with glass giveaways. We are hoping to have some of our retirees come in Friday morning for a demonstration and to meet our customers. I talked to Shorty today and he will come, probably my Dad, Les Womack and we hope to get even more involved. Even if they don't work the glass they love to meet our customers and share stories.

Hillary, could you please let your bloggers know that the 3 Winn wooden pieces are going to be posted on ebay for sale? I know there was some interest in them when you posted pics. I would love to find these guys a loving home. Thanks, Teresa Scarberry

To quote Dr Seuss
I do not like pink glass
I do not like pink glass in the morning. I do not like pink glass in the afternoon. I do not like pink glass. The wife likes pink depression glass. My car stops to search for pink glass frequently. I do not like pink glass.
