Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Blenko Inspired Art / Photos

Hilary, A while back you mentioned Rick Lee, Damon Crane, and Glen Brogan as artist . Saying they all did good photos and graphics. This week I spent time viewing the website listing for all three. Can you persuade Lee and Crane to allow you to do a few blogs about their work and publish available photos along with price? Also Brogan I didn't see any glasswork in the drawings on his site.
I am redoing my house, and want to have Blenko photos in the glass room which is filled with Blenko from 1059 - 2009. John Nickerson at one time lived in an apartment we own, our collection grew after this, as we felt a connection to the company.
Also on the Glen Brogan website, I discovered the ??? drawing??? is this representative of you?

Hah, maybe I should clarify. I am in fact not a glass artist, but an illustrator and graphic designer. (I am also Dr. Homburg's significant other, which hopefully she isn't too embarrassed for me to mention on here, haha.)

The image of Hillary here is a Cubee that I designed. So what are Cubees? They are cube-shaped paper toys that you print out from your home computer, then cut and assemble to make a 3D version of the image you see in this post.

They are the invention of Christopher Beaumont who runs the website http://www.cubeecraft.com where you can download literally hundreds of different Cubees. Typically they are based on pop culture or original artist designs, but I made this one special for Hillary.

I have designed several Cubees for the Cubeecraft website, which has become something of a phenomenon in the internet and papercraft art scenes. So much so that one of the Cubees I designed is actually in a gallery show in New York right now, with a second show possible this weekend!

In my world Dr Hilary doesn't tells no lies
and she has repeating said she does not date.
Therefore, I choose to believe your relationship with Dr Hilary is one sided and in fact you don't know her anybetter than I. If you do exist,
I would rather not know you exist.
By the way, excellent work. My staff is having one hell of a time just cutting 100 of these things out next job put them together. To design must take real talent ha ha. Thank you. The imagine is perfect.

Bad internet connection for last 90+ days.
Glen, what is the cost for making a cube designer cube?
This would be a perfect gift.
Like Sol, I would welcome seeing 1,000 cubes of my boyfriend in the am.
Is there a website to order?
Capital T for talent, with Dr H 's promotional skills the two of you will fly high for life.

Margie & Bridgett-

I don't think I can make clickable links in these comments so you'll have to copy and paste these web addresses

My website is:
http://www.albinoraven.com

The Cubee website is:
http://www.cubeecraft.com

And a post I did about the current New York show is here:
http://albinoraven7.blogspot.com/2009/09/2-art-4-tv.html

Just Bridgett-

Cubeecraft is strictly non-profit right now, Chris really wants all his paper toys to be free for everybody, so there are no fees involved. However, he doesn't really take custom orders either, as most of the Cubees are based on pop culture characters. Also I can't really take orders to design them either, because they are very much Chris' thing and not mine, I just design some here and there when the mood strikes me. But that leads me to the point that anyone can design Cubees if they wish, as Chris typically gives the template out to anyone who is serious about making them, so maybe if you know someone who is artistically inclined they could help you out.

To Sol-

I hate to break it to you, but Hillary and I are in fact together :)
But I think we should keep stuff like this to a minimum as this is a blog about art, not personal lives, haha.

And If you really are making hundreds of these Cubees I'd love to see a picture.

Glen,
Warning! Don't challenge Sol.
While most of us enjoy collecting glass, learning about how to collect, and maintain a collection, Sol's focus seems to
glasslady.
Why isn't the Huntington Herald doing a story about YOU Glen and your art work?
Your work is much too good for the tristate. Does Sweetdoc know about you? She prides herself on finding new artist?

The number of 30ish professionals who read this blog and like blenko is very high.
I also like hearing about each of you.
Phani hearing that you are proud of your lawyer superhero girl friend \soon to be wife is lovely.
Did she accept the ring and the Blenko B-day vase?
Next year I aspire to be beside the 2 of you in line.

Hilary did not respond to your email.
I will rspond. Get on line and buy the prints from Damon or else
buy the vintage glass inspired prints or pay a local artist to create what you want.
We used a local UT artists for both the glass panels and oil paintings. Price was excellent and quality very good.
Support student grad student artist from your community when possible.

Excellent suggestion. I also buy 3 times a year locally when the graduate art students have sales (graphic, steel and metal, oil and water).
Sol: This is old news, I knew about Glen last year.
Bridgett: where are you? Your comments are few and far between? Miss you upbeat off center opins.
Glass group meeting on AOL at 8pm Sunday.
