Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Take a Risk

Agnes De Mille - ' Living is a form of not being sure, not knowing what next or how . . .The artist never entirely knows. We guess. We may be wrong but we take leap after leap in the dark.'

Like me you probably feel more secure when you play it safe. Wear pearls instead of hand painted glass beads from a craft fair.

Just for this week - "take a risk a day, a small change it doesn't have to be bold, step out . . . purchase the Vintage Blenko you been admiring - the one in which fear dominated the purchase. . . buy a new color, or a grouping of a new color.

My blog friend Ellen is always reminding me ' what we collect says a lot about who we are' . . . . when one collects Blenko and WV Glass, my thoughts are it says we care about the environment, we care about the country - Made In USA is important to us and also it may say "we love color," we appreciate handcrafted, & / or the collection may say we love West Vrginia!

This week take a risk. If you care to share your risk taking or your purchase email us theblenkoproject@aol.com .

Photo: Blenko Glass water bottle - In Ruby and with 4 spouts - the finisher took a risk, and the result was beautiful! Very few of these were made. Good luck in finding one for your collection.

YOU NEED A PUPIT IN WHICH TO PREACH.
I THINK YOU COULD BE A VERY GOOD MINISTER TO THE HOMELESS THE DOWN ON THEIR LUCK OR THE VERY RICK WITH GUILT.
RISK TAKING? WHAT RISK HAVE YOU TAKEN SWEET BLENKO?
MY GREATEST RISK TO DATE WAS LEAVING MY CALIF HOME AND MOVING TO THE MOUNTAINS.
MY COLLECTION OF LVING THINGS IS GROWING MY VEGGIES ARE IN THE GROUND ON TIME / FIRST TIME IN 4 YEARS. DAILY I RISK FEELING STUPID WHEN I ASK MY NEIGHBORS HOW TO PLANT AND WHAT TO FEED THE LIFE STOCK.
BLENKO COULD TAKE A RISK AND MAKE NEW COLORS GET MULTIPLE DESIGNERS
GET A DEISGN GROUPING FOR 2011
OR JUST START PROMOTING WHAT THEY DO WHEN THEY DO IT.

This carafe is an example of a mistake? Lovely, perhaps mistakes should be encouraged.

People we need to stop the chatter and worry re: Blenko.
First of all, there is no need to worry. Life itself holds all the solutions. It is a beautiful self-sustaining mechanism. We just need to allow it to function in its natural way. Then we will awaken to its higher intelligence and drop all our worries.

Not only that, when we witness, our mind slows down. Worry itself causes the mind to rush around in what you call anxiety. When awareness is brought in, the rushing slows down and things happen as they should.
Stop the worry. Take our your purse or card and order Blenko, then quietly go about your business.

Its hard to feel good about helping a company by collecting its wares when you go in their outlet store and treated rudely by the people there, I just ask a question
I am sorry I will never make that mistake again.
I called in the office to ask about the WV piece the lady let go a big sigh and told me to hold on, then I was connected to a very nice person who answered my questions. She was a joy to talk to. These people need to realize our money spent pays their wages, and you only get one chance to make a first impression.

The VC ladies are busy and have never been known for their kindness, remember they are alone in a large shop only 2 or 3 people to help the hundreds per day of shoppers. Surely you can understand they would be feeling stressed from the overwork.
