Heart of Glass - Blenko Glass

Blenko Glass is a West Virginia treasure that spans generations. Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass. We will discuss current and former craftsmen and designers and how important it is that Blenko and West Virginia glass be appreciated and valued by the younger generation.

Why Not Collect The Blenko Waterbottle?

Hillary:

One of the easiest things for new collectors to find in vintage hunting is the #384 Blenko water bottle. Many collectors bypass the water bottle, because it is so easily found. I collect it for that reason, and because it has been in the Blenko catalog since 1938, you can find it in nearly every color Blenko ever made. I have twenty one, in different colors, plus three etched bottles from the first three Blenko Collectors Society conventions. The first one I used as an autograph book at the first convention, and got as many designers’ signatures as I could.

I have found good quality vintage bottles for as little as $10, and paid as much as $75 on eBay for a vintage ruby bottle. Currently, Blenko has water bottles available in the following colors for $42 plus shipping: Crystal, Topaz, Tangerine, Cobalt, Clover, Spring Green, Electric Blue, Ocean Blue, and Seabreeze. Ruby is available for $56 plus shipping.

Happy Hunting!

Diane

The catalog number for this handeled water bottle is #384H. The design had a short production run, which is what makes them so rare, and the eBay prices go so high. There are collectors in Texas with a very large collection of water bottles with handles - I will contact them, and see if they will send photos. I have seen a four spouted botle listed on eBay, but I don't know when it was made. If it is Blenko, it's a non-catalog item. The one with bumps is from the 1960/61 Vineyard line, but I don't have any photos. Will check with the folks I know, see if they have one they can snap for us.

Perhaps daily you could do this?

We purchased waterbottles signed for each of our nephews and neice this holiday.
Now I shall check dealers for the rare ones also.
Thank you for sharing these news items, we failed to understand various colors were rare, and no longer made.
Perhaps the Outlet or on line store should provide this information.
Do you have daily contact with the factory? If so ask what new colors they plan for 2010 and what colors will be eliminated, and if they plan to do any repeats of the rare bottles.
Thank you for your continued work and your kindness in responding to emails.
